Disable Remote Assistance in Vista

To increase security and to gain a little in speed you can disable Remote Assistance in Windows Vista. Then you will no longer be able to send requests for remote assistance to other users. Most of the users do not need this.

First go to Control Panel, switch to Classic View and select System.

From the left sidebar select Remote settings..

Uncheck the option Allow Remote Assistance connection to this computer. You can also make sure that option Don’t allow connections to this computer is selected. This should be done by default.

  1. A great tip on adding more security and performance with Windows Vista. I have done this myself and though I didn’t notice a tremendous difference in performance I knew security was much more important.

  2. Thank you for the wonderful tip! I have been looking for ways on how to optimize the speed of my PC. Microsoft should have disabled the remote assistance feature in the first place. BTW, what powerful PC anti-virus you may recommend?
